What are the positives of learning more about ourselves?
As I begin to understand more about my inner story, it enables me to have compassion and understanding for other people’s inner story.
When we take time to reflect with kindness, curiosity and a sense of humour on what we have learned about a situation or an experience, we deepen our understanding of ourselves. We begin to operate from a place of I – self, that is less bound up with who we should be, what we should do or have.
I work with my clients to enable them to gain further self awareness, what makes them tick, explode, calm, laugh, etc. And most importantly I enable them to realise that underneath all the layers of emotions, feelings and shoulds – we are not broken, we do not need fixing; we simply need to get to know ourselves.
How can you learn to reflect and continue to learn about yourself?
Coaching and types of therapy have really boosted this process for me, but a simple way to begin is to journal. Write about what is happening, what is going on, what has been good, bad and downright ugly. What do you want to do? What do you want to change in your life, move forward with?
